Our lives are one big, long story; we’re each the protagonist in our own epic novel. When we share our stories and accept the stories of others, something magic happens – we connect. These connections have kept the narrative tradition strong for thousands of years; they bridge generations, ethnicities, and social structure to transcend time and link us as one. This amazing workshop is designed to help you become a more confident and comfortable story sharer and to connect with the world in a significant way, focusing on food, which often carries the strongest sense memories. Story sharer extraordinaire Recille Hamrell will begin by helping you access your wellspring of food memories; you’ll go deep to discover memories of the -smell -of- Grandma’s -kitchen, the -taste- of- your -tenth- birthday- cake, or even that- time- you- deep- fried- a -chocolate -bar (aka kitchen mishaps). Once you’ve dug up your favorite memory, Recille will help you apply the fundamentals of narrative structure and presentation strategies to create an intoxicating story that will captivate your friends and family (and maybe even some strangers.)
Recille Hamrell is a storyteller and teacher. She loves to help people access their life experiences and share them with the world. Twice a month, she runs the Story Sharing Circle at Williston’s Dorothy Alling Library; bimonthly, the Unitarian Universalist Church in Burlington hosts her Shared Moments Open Mike. The Sharing Circle is proudly in its sixth year; Shared Moments is three years old and equally well-loved. In April of this year Recille organized the First Annual Story Sharing Symposium: The Art of Telling Your Story; this event brought together storytellers from near and far. Recille couldn’t be more thrilled to team up with us and help storytellers hone their craft in our Learning Center…and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her!
This fully interactive class costs $20; light refreshments will be provided. To reserve your spot, register with our secure online store or give us a call at (802) 863 2569.
