Importer Spotlight: Eric Solomon

Eric Solomon has long been one of our favorite importers here at Healthy Living. His company, European Cellars, has a portfolio of amazing wines that few other importers can rival. Eric’s focus has always been on finding high quality wines from lesser-known regions. The wines he selects reflect a sense of place, and are distinctive of the terroir from which they come. Here are a few Eric Solomon selections we are really excited about.

Chateau Saint-Roch is a winery located in the Maury Sec appellation of France. World-renowned winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage has displayed an incredible ability to coax the most out of the rugged terrain of the region. The Chateau Saint-Roch Kerbuccio and Chimeres represent some of the most incredible values in the wine world. The wines are full-bodied and rich, but maintain a balance, elegance, and purity that you would expect of wines 4-5 times the price.

Another incredible producer from the Eric Solomon portfolio is Chateau Pesquie. Located in the Ventoux AOC in the southeastern part of the Rhone Valley, Chateau Pesquie’s wines are distinctive, harmonious, and terroir driven. The limestone soils and high elevation results in wine that is lighter and earthier than wines from many neighboring regions, but still concentrated and complex. The Chateau Pesquie Terrasses is a versatile wine that belongs on the dinner table.

Besides importing amazing French wines, Eric Solomon also imports some of the finest Spanish wines that come in to the country. Cellar Cal Pla in the Priorat region of Spain makes wines of amazing richness and depth. Their Black Slate Priorat (named after the soil found in the region) is an impressive blend of Garnacha, Carignan, and Cabernet Sauvignon featuring notes of licorice, blueberry, and wet rocks.
